General:

There's an element of surmise in all this, but a plausible story goes like this. In 1911 Rose Ashford was working in Sidmouth, Devon as a servant to Mary Macdonald who was originally from Northumbria. In 1918 someone named Rose Ashford married in Northumbria. If Mary Macdonald moved back to Northumbria from Sidmouth it's possible her servant went with her. That would put Rose Ashford in the right place for the marriage.

Rose Ashford married a guy called John Everitt, which is a fairly unusual surname. When we look at the 1940 marriage record for Reginald Driver he is shown as marrying two people - Rose Ashford and Rose Everitt. I suspect both these Roses are the same person and the record shows both her maiden name (Ashford) and her name from a previous marriage (Everitt).

Then again it could be a load of twaddle.....
