John was born to Daniel Millman and Elizabeth in 1823 at Kingswood. He was christened on 29th July 1823 at the Independent Church there. He married Hester White. The 1851 census shows him living with Hester, a shoebinder, and their two young children. According to the 1881 census he and Hester then had three grown up children living with them . He was a cloth worker - an employee at Nind Mill, Kingswood. The three children were also employed in the trade.
