Notes
General:
Charles Millman, my great great great grandfather was born to Joseph Millman and Mary at Kingswood, Glos. There is an I.G.I. record for the christening of a Charles Millman on 7th June 1818, at the Independent Church of Kingswood, Wiltshire. The parents are listed as Josh. Millman and Mary Wilcox. There are records for Josh's and Mary's children - six in all, Charles being the eldest. There is also a record for a child, Carolina Stroud Millman, born to Joseph Millman and Mary Wilcox and christened in the Independent Church at Kingswood. I am assuming therefore that Josh. was actually Joseph. Charles married Eleanor Hooper on 4th July 1839 in the Parish Church of St. Pauls in Bristol, England. The 1851 census shows a Charles Millman, aged 30, living at Stapleton Rd. in Bristol, England. (No exact address is given - I believe Stapleton Rd. was an area at that time). This would give a birth year of 1821; however, I believe ages were "rounded down" to the nearest divisible by ten at that census year. His occupation was warehouseman. He was married and there were three children at home. Also in the house were Benjamin, a warehouseman, John Postins, Thomas Price and Alfred Tuck ,all visitors, and Louisa Rowlan, niece, who was a servant. No wife is listed at the premises on that day but the census shows an Eleanor Millman as a visitor of William Hooper ( a shoemaker and grover ) and his family at Iron Acton. Presumably he was her brother.
