Emma the beloved wife of G D Shipley fell asleep Feb 27th 1917 aged 83 years

General:

Census Date: 1891 Census Place: Born Ripley, Derbyshire. Emma Fletcher, my great great grandmother, was born to Emma Fletcher in 1834 in Calverton, Nottingham . (An I.G.I. entry for an Emma Fletcher born Calverton gives the year of birth as 1843 - I am assuming this is an error of transcription and that this record is for my Emma because of the close similarity of details - in addition to the name and place of birth being the same, no father is given on the I.G.I record and no father is given on Emma's marriage certificate.) If this conjecture is correct Emma was christened on 30th April 1834. Emma married George Deacon Shipley in March 1861. Her age was given as 26 which corresponds with the 1881 census entry which gives her age as 47. Between 1863 and 1877 they had seven children. See notes re. George Deacon Shipley.
